The Fort Knox Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) is a rapidly growing chapter in Kentucky Region II.
The chapter meets at Noon on the third Tuesday of every month at the Private Activities building (building 4022) near Lindsay golf course, Fort Knox, Kentucky.
The Military Order is a patriotic nonpartisan organization, which holds that it is nobler to serve than to be served. The Order was established in 1919 to promote the welfare of our Nation. Because it clearly is not a self-seeking organization, the Order is widely respected and listened to, throughout all branches of the Government and across the Country.
The Order provides an opportunity for Officers of all of the Uniformed Services to unite in a strong program to promote National Security, Patriotism, Good Citizenship and Service to Country.
Commander's Comments:
The Chapter Year is coming to an end. We must now focus on ratifying a slate of officers to lead us next year, installing them, and most importantly supporting them as they take on the difficult task of leading us through very challenging times ahead. It is also time to prepare our annual reports for National Headquarters that provide the basis for the National Chapter Awards. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be recognized as the Best Small Chapter in the US for a second year in a row?!!
The ROTC Camp Challenge Graduation Awards program is upon us. We have five graduation ceremonies to support. LTC Toby Martinez will present the 3 July Award and your Commander, Larry Herzog will present on 8 July. We are still looking for companions to volunteer for 13, 17, and 21 July. Let Toby know if you are able to present at one of these graduation ceremonies.
We prepared submittals for three new Chapter Awards being presented by Region II – an ROTC award, a Public Relations award, and a Membership award. We think we will be competitive to for all three which will likely be presented at the Region II Installation of Officers at the Pendennis Club in Louisville on 23 June. Our MOWW National Chief of Staff will be the featured speaker. Cost is $50 per person; dress is formal or dark suit.
Our monthly meeting in May was a presentation by Mr Jeff Acob, who will spoke about the Central Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, currently under construction off US 31W, between Radcliff and Fort Knox. The cemetery was formally dedicated by Governor Fletcher and other dignitaries on the first of June. The region also sponsored a series of Single Day YLCs on 31 May through 3 June.
I look forward to seeing all of you at the next Chapter meeting on 19 June. We will elect our officers for the 2007-2008 Chapter year and conduct necessary business of the Order.
LTC (Ret) Larry Herzog, Commander
